It's like an old ladies' club for discussing world issues, where the suggestion of actually doing something about them would be considered rude and outlandish. While the UN should be maintained as at least a useful forum for talks in some situations (and because it does a lot of good humanitarian work around the world, feeding people and providing medical care), the US should work to form an international organization composed exclusively of democracies (i.e., those nations who can be shown to permit free and fair elections, multiple parties, and basic individual liberties), and that organization should be given the support, legitimacy, and authority that the UN has squandered for the past several decades. Its authority would come indirectly from the people themselves, so its actions should have greater legitimacy than the actions of an organization in which tyrants are given vetos and corruption is tolerated.

The U.N. started out as a good idea. Through the years corruption and greed have taken over and there is a very strong anti-American sentiment today.
My honest opinion of the U.N. is that they are a bunch of expletives deleted.
And to the guy above who said they do a lot of good work through humanitarian aid....how can you say that when U.N workers have been raping children in Africa? Or did you miss that story? Are you out of your mind?!?!?!? If I took the money the U.N. has I could do a far better job providing humanitarian aid than they ever could!!!!!

Read their Charter/Mission Statement. That describes their purpose.
Then evaluate their performance.
Based on those two investigations alone, I can't imagine anyone having any respect for the UN. With the possible exception of a third world rapist and butcher that will invariably be propped up by some oil for food bureaucrat on the take.

Corrupt enclave of diplomats...we have representative of country's that don't allow "voting" to vote on world issues.
C'mon, Libya on the "Human Rights" committee?
Oil for Food?
...time for another world power to "host" them.
