He may think that you told him to "feel him out a little" and to find out what his reaction would be. He probably thinks he's making it easier on you to proposition you because he thinks you hit on him.
I would explain to him nicely that you're only interested in him as a friend and you don't want to complicate it with sex. Tell him that the real reason you told him is because you thought he would understand better than other people what it is like to be different and you thought that you wouldn't be judged as harshly by him as you would by others if you confided in him.
He may be a little embarrassed at first, but he will appreciate your honesty.
