It's like getting your ears peirced. Except they'll be sore for a week and then you'll get used to it. So i guess, 5-7.
Also, your dentist should tell u all the things u need to do after or before u get them on. He'll show u the rite way to brush, floss and all that stuff.

The reason your teeth will hurt for 1-3 days after putting on the braces and then each time you go back, is the pressure the wire puts on your teeth to move them. Each person is different in the amount of pain they feel. My son says his hurt for a day or two, but my daughter said hers haven't hurt a bit.
Yes, you should brush after meals if possible. Be sure to use the little brush tool the orthodontist will give you, so you can get under the wire in the braces. Its difficult to floss with braces on. I would just brush well.
Good luck.

Here's my take on braces (I had them for 1 1/2 years):

The pain isn't unbearable. It only lasts for a few days after the braces are tightened. Your mom is right, it is mostly soreness... except for when you eat, there is pain. Try to eat soft foods like yogurt. I would rate the pain only about a 2 (but, I have had many other painful experiences, so braces seemed like nothing to me).

You should floss everyday even without braces... it helps to keep your teeth clean. For me, I didn't brush after every meal, though. I just brushed once in the morning and once at night. Food does get stuck in the braces, so you will want to be sure to rinse your mouth out. Try to take a gulp of water in your mouth and swish it around.

Good luck! Just remember that you will have a beautiful smile afterwords. :)

It did not hurt at all when I got my braces and I have a low tolerance for pain too. I think maybe it was like a two on a scale of one to ten. It does hurt when your teeth start shifting but, the amount of pain you get from that depends on how crooked your teeth are.
You should floss daily and brush after every meal you certainly don't want to get gum disease or cavities. Using a water pick to get the area between your gums nice and clean works well too.
Good Luck!

They're just sore

At first they feel fine. By the end of the day you'll wanna rip them out. Oh and I suggest eating things like yogurt, mac&&cheese, and pudding for a while afterwards. For the first three days with them advil helps a lot!

I don't floss every day and all the stuff your supposed to. I suggest you do though cause your teeth will look soooooo much better if you do.

So for my rating if 10 hurts the most and 1 hurts the least I'd have to say its a.... 7ish.... maybe a little lower

It's a 10 when you first get your braces and every time you get them tightened. I never brushed after every meal just in the morning and at night, but I did floss every day. And my teeth turned out fine.

Yes, after tightening your braces, they can ache. A few motrin or tylenol can help with this. Ask your orthodontist about what you should take and when you should take it. Some will recommend taking it 30 minutes prior to your appointment so that you pre-emptively manage the pain. Others recommend taking it the second you leave.

Yes, you need to floss everyday and brush as frequently as possible. Your orthodontist will go over it with you. If you don't think you can handle it, then you should let him/her know right now so that you don't waste thousands of dollars of your parents' money on them and then refuse to take care of them.

Good luck and they are worth the hassle! : )

i had braces years ago......and it hurt a lot, though, i would say that on a scale of 1-10 it was a 9-10 for me. i have a high tolerance for pain, but man!, did it hurt. i couldn't eat because my teeth hurt like, everytime i breath. and i would recommend brushing your teeth after every meal and also flossing, if you can (it might be a little tricky). trust me, you do not want to have braces, bad breath and rotting teeth, to top it off

How much pain there is really depends on the orthodontist. I had an ok orthodonist and got the worst pain of my life for minor work. My brother got one of the best orthodonist's in the country and got a little soreness for major work.
You have to floss every dya and bush after every meal. My advice, buy some Scope and rinse your mouth with it after brushing to see if you missed a spot.

i have braces, but i got damon braces....theyre different from braces with rubber bands in that they don't need to be tightened.....getting them on didn't hurt one bit the most painful thing was the big mouth strecther he put in my mouth..and the small amount of pushimng he did to glue on the brackets....on your scale maybe a 3....the only thing is after they were soo sore i didn't eat anything but soup for like three days...after bout a week you can eat whatever...and you'll feel fine.it's smart to floss it'll really help it'll be cleaner and nicer lookin' my orthodontist gave me a whole little kit and stuff......and yes you should brush after every meal.tips:put on chapstick or lip gloss before you get your braces on they will be dry-mine were dry for days.and if you love soda, take one las big drink now!and on the first couple days don't eat anything hard.believe me the first day my bracket came off cuz i ate a chip...and most important be careful and brush your teeth!
