I am for pot being legal, plain and simple.Reason why i'm for it, because I know too many people that need pot to make them feel better.(one person because they have MS and another who is end stage cancer)Don't the goverenment know all the thing's that can be made from it, like clothes,rope,medicine,etc....?And just think of all the time and energy law enforcement would have to go after real law breaker's, if pot was legal.I say make pot legal,go after the real drug's like Crack,Meth,etc.....!!!

I told my mom about this question and she wanted me to come back and add this for her,"I have end stage cancer, and can't get help from the state, because i make $5.00 more than what they allow to claim for medicid. If I get to hurting too bad, then yes I will be looking for the best pot I can find around here. The head's of state should think more into the people of this country and what would help them instead of always trying to just help themselves."

absolutely! it should never been outlawed in the first place. hemp has a rich history in our country and has many industrial uses. in fact; it wasn't called "marijuana" in our country until the early part of the 20th century when we were having serious problems woth mexico. the hearst newspaper giant (who owned papers around the country) began replacing the word hemp with its mexican counterpart to play on americans fears and dislikes with anything mexican. thw why is simple: hemp is a major competitor with timber interests in producing things like paper, canvas, clothing, etc... Mr. Hearst was deeply invested in the timber indusrty and didn't want the hemp competition. solution: get evryone to think hemp and the evil mexican marijuana are the same thing. looks like it worked. in an age where alcoholism in our country is rampant (and legal) it makes no sense that hemp should be illegal to cultivate for industrial or private purposes.

Legalizing marajuana would indeed solve some problems. Clearly, law inforcement hasn't been able to make much of a dent in it's sale and use, so legalizing it would mean that it could be grown commercially, controled and taxed just a cigarettes are. That, obviously, would produce revenue for state and federal governments. Yes, some people would grow their own, but not in large enough amounts to effect the issue. It would also end the illegal traffic in the stuff, thus eating into the flow of money going to organized crime. Drug dealers simply would not be unable to compete with pricing. Guestaments are that legalization would even cut down on it use. The idea is that some of the attraction for it is the fact that it's illegal and there are people who smoke it for the feeling their getting away with something. What legalization would not do is reduce the cost of drug inforcement in general. There's just too many other substances to be policed for the legalization of pot to have much impact on inforcement efforts. Interstingly, there have been economic studies done that conclude legalization of all drugs, so that they could be controlled and taxed, would produce enormous revenues, cripple organized crime, and virtually elliminate the need and expense of the entire drug inforcement program. The great road block, however, is that the US government won't touch the matter with a ten foot pole. Popular opinion is still that drugs are the root of all evil, and voters shudder at the very mention of legalization. Politician are never going to risk their careers by supporting a legalization measure.

Your just going to have to forgive the misspelling in this, spell check is out of order.

Pot should be legal. They can't allow it though. Weed and Alcohol make a madd chemical imbalance. A lot of irresponsible users will start messing things up. And your right, weed was used for a lot of things that are helpful and the only reason"hemp" became illegal then where racial issues. Really, how could they market something that can grow on its own provided sunlight and water. Cigarettes are giving people cancer everyday but taxes are so good on some bullshit than they rather allow the sale to commence.

Other people respond as if they know "cannabis pills" or something man constructed substance can do the job. If there chopping, bleeding, and whipping it back up to a pill than i should go USE CRACK because it's done the same way. There has to be a mind altering drug to keep the chemical balance that best fist the person if needed. People don't use to much of something, as well as not enough of something,it can be just as harmful as another. There needs to be a balance.

To really answer the question, weed should become legal but it won't because a lot of sh1t would be collecting dust on the shelf and thrown out of the market.

Yes, i agree. The govt. spends way too much of our money on law enforcement, when it's economically a better idea to legalize it. They probably don't because they wouldn't be able to tax it because it grows so easy and anyone can grow it. There's way more to the argument for legalizing pot, but this is it for me.

Either make it legal or outlaw alcohol. We know what happens when we try to outlaw alcohol, so just make pot legal. Millions upon millions of Americans smoke it everyday. Land of the free, yeah right!

They do go after the real drugs. Pot should remain illegal because when most people smoke it, they do so to get high and only to get high.

If someone is in pain they have medical based marijuana and pills. Legalizing marijuana will not solve a thing. It will only make a whole lot more stoners.

Most people smoke pot to get high. I do not personally know cancer victims who need it, but I would imagine that there are pills and other less-harmful pain-relievers.

Pot kills brain cells and I have never met a smart person who did smoke pot. It is illegal and gross. I mean, have you ever kissed anyone who smokes pot? Disgusting. The government knows what it is doing: POT should stay ILLEGAL!!!

I don't smoke pot, but I do not understand why it is illegal. It seems to me that alcohol and cigarettes are far worse for your health.

Agreed.

But, we have to look at the debating side -
if they allow pot, they'll say - why not allow other drugs?

It "wouldn't be fair".

But - anyway, I'm all for it!
