I often wonder this myself but maybe they are just young.

Hello All,
I would like to reply in defence of all call centre workers. I have worked in a call centre for over 3 years, have worked my way up from being an agent now to being the companies training coordinator. I would certainly not put my self or my colleagues in this categories as being a misfit.

I've worked in different call centres, and I've seen a lot of different types of people, social misfits, house wives, geeks, even surfers and mall rats!
Once in a while we all lose our patience with callers or get disenchanted lose interest in what we are doing. This is mostly due to the environment we work in and the policy and processes of the people we work for.

No, just people who can barely be understood by English speaking people becuase of their heavy accents.
It's wrong to characterize someone because of their job, but you brought it up. Since you posed the question, some people would say lawyers are social misfits. That doesn't make them social misfits just because they chose (or were steered into) a certain profession.

...or is it that working in a Call Center warps a person's perspective? Most call centers are understaffed, undertrained and overstressed. Most calls are from busy/distracted/frustrated people and the poor slob taking the call is the lightning rod.
Kill 'em with kindness: Take a breath, back up, apologize if you should and start over. Suddenly you each become a person to the other and not just a disembodied voice on a headset.
The smallest kindness from you may be what will make that person's day, and the hundred people who encounter her later that day will benefit from your actions.

Nope. I worked as a manager in one a while back and I'm not a social mis-fit.
In fact some of the guys who worked there were great, working through the summer between University years.
I guess you shouldn't really judge people from a telephone conversation

You get what you pay for. Major corporations are "farming out' all of their call centers (at least US companies) to Canada and India.
Whenever I call any support center, call center or tech support at some point I ask.."So how's the weather there?"....this usually leads to the person revealing where they are -with a little idle chit-chat.
Most of the Canadian call centers are great, the India ones are a joke.
And with all due respect to call center employees who think they're doing a great job...so didn't the crew of the Titanic.

Yes and they all hate the people who phone them. They should be held personally acountable for every scrap of information that they give out and if what they say isnt true i.e the delivery of your goods doesnt turn up then they should crawl to your home over broken glass and beg your forgivness.
Got to go I am waiting for the fridge to be delivered!

Not sure but some of them really seem that way. I wonder if they are just weak people that have a job like that to help them feel more powerful.
