There was no way he was going to volunteer for duty in Viet Nam.

First off, his daddy pulled strings to get him pushed up a waiting list to get into the National Guard. Back then there was a long line of young men trying to get into the National Guard to avoid the draft. The problem was, the Guard in each state only had a certain amount of openings. Dubya would have never been accepted into the Texas National Guard under normal circumstances because the waiting list was way too long when he first signed up and his test scores weren't that high.

He was pushed to the top of the list by what was then called a 'political favor,' Ben Barnes was the Texas politician who arranged Dubya draft dodging as well as the draft dodging of many other sons of rich Texans.

(Every week my brother and I, me because I was of draft age and he because his college exemptions ran out, would check our rankings on the waiting list. And ever week new names would be added and every week the names of those who were accepted were listed. And every once in a while you would see someone lower than you on the list suddenly make the accepted list. This happened with Dubya. It also happened with Lloyd Wright's son and a few other rich Texans sons.)

As to Dubya being a pilot that is a crock! He did take pilots training, that's true. But he never qualified for full fighter pilot certification.

it particularly is humorous to confirm real wingers safeguard Bush's cowardice and on a similar time smear any embellished wrestle veteran who's a Democrat. Bush joined the Texas ANG to evade the draft and Vietnam.

He's a coward. The thing that makes it even worse was that he probably supported the war and wasn't protesting against it. Now, he uses young men and women in uniform like chess pieces, moving them into foreign countries that haven't done anything to us(I'm talking about Iraq, not Afganastan. His actions in Afganastan were completly appropriate) and showing only the faintest sign of compassion for the loss of life. He is blinded by his pure stupidity to see that the "mission" in Iraq is a complete and utter failure

Heard President Bush, Sr. say once that American soldiers who fought in Vietnam were from "the lower echelons of society."

Bush was a pilot in the Army Air National Guard.

The question is why didn't Clinton serve in the military at all?

he was probably scared. i mean, i don't approve of 90% of what he's done in his presidency, but he was young and just had an easy way out into the National Guard so he took it. but there probably wasn't any coke either :)

He wanted to wait and become President so he could start his own, only in Iraq instead.

Are you saying the national guard is not needed?

Because he would not be considered the protector of America at that time.
