My friend asked for suggestions for songs for the 1st dance at her upcoming wedding for the bride and groom. I suggested If you don't know me by now by Simply Red - she wasn't amused. What do you think?

I'm not sure if she likes country, but they have a lot of real good wedding songs, such as:
"I Need You" and "You Light Up My Life" by LeAnn Rimes
"I Will Always Love You" by Kenny Rogers/Dolly Parton
Some other suggestions are:
"Call & Answer" by Barenaked Ladies
"I Belong To You" by Lenny Kravitz
"By Your Side" by Sade
"Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman?" by Bryan Adams
"She" by Elvis Costello
"And I Love Her" by the Beatles
"Knocks Me Off My Feet" by Stevie Wonder
"It Had To Be You" by Harry Connick, Jr.
"You're Just Too Good To Be True" by Lauryn Hill
-and-
"When I Fall In Love" by Nat King Cole.

In another life I was a dj at weddings. Popular choices were, Amazed. Broken Road. Thank you for loving me. My best friend. Have I told you lately that I love you. etc. Why did you suggest the song you did? Do you think she's making a bad decision by getting married to this individual? I think that a song has to mean something to the couple. I don't think I'd personally be asking advice on the song. It should just be something that is felt by bride and groom.

I would go with something with a little more class.
Example: "At Last" - sung by Ella Fitzgerald
At last my love has come along
My lonely days are over
And life is like a song
At last the skies above are blue
And my heart was wrapped up in clover
The night I looked at you
I found a dream that I can speak to
A dream that I could call my own
I found a thrill to press my cheek to
A thrill that I have never known
You smiled, and then the spell was cast
And here we are in heaven
And you are mine at last

I don't really think that's a good song...I can see why she wasn't amused. They will still be learning about each other at their 50th wedding anniversary...people change...so there are new things to learn. Here is a site with some song ideas...

We had Louis Armstrong - What a Wonderful World for our first dance and then we had the BBC version of Lou Reeds Perfect Day for our last. Perfect Day was deffinately a winner, everyone loved it and knew it but it wasn't too sloppy. Hope this helps xxx

I wouldn't be amused at that ginger freak crooning as a first dance either, how about today is the greatest by the smashing pumpkins?

Elton John - The Bi*ch is back! The Libertines - Can't stand me now. Billy Connoly - D.I.V.O.R.C.E Lol, no seriously though, I think "follow you, follow me" by Genesis would be a lovely song.
