Florence Nightingale is considered by many to be the patron saint of the nursing profession. Her name really was Florence Nightengale. It was not a pseudonym. She was named Florence because of her birth place which was Florence Italy..

She started her career in nursing during the Crimean War (1854 - 1856) when her and 38 volunteer nurses agreed to tend to the wounded in a field hospital.

She is also credited with bringing fresh air and cold water to reduce the fever associated with a deadly influenza virus here in the US during an outbreak during the late 1800's. She passaed away in 1910.

Being a Nurse is not all she was. She was also an accomplished mathmatician. Creating a theory known as the polar-diagram for statsitical data analysis. The digram was used during the Cirmean War to determine the number of preventable non-combat deaths as a result of unsanitary field conditions.

Florence Nightingale was known as the "Lady with the Lamp." She's the mother of modern nursing. She modernized the hospital settings and sanitation during the Crimean War saving soldiers from dying due to infections.

FT was just an ordinary lady trying to nurse sick people and learning things about curing and making them feel better. When a war occurred in the place where she was living in, a lot of soldiers and civilians were got hurt and there were no medical services before so she was the one who started to help them and every night, she walked to them one by one, a lamp on her hand, checking each ones safeness. She nursed them and cured them. She also taught all the women in those days the proper way of cleaning wounds and etc. She was also known as "The mother of nursing" i forgot the other names.

Dunno, but if she were around today, the media would probably dub her "Flo-Nite".
