NTLDR is an acronym for NT Loader, a small program that starts and initializes the Windows XP boot process. It is the first thing that runs from the boot sector of the hard drive, and also requires a file called boot.ini, which contains specific configuration settings for the Windows startup process.

this website addresses the NTLDR missing error.. actually it is quite common - mostly because there are several causes. In your case, since the hard drive came from another PC, checking to make sure the data cable is secure and that the drive is completely formatted for NTFS and has a primary, active partition should be done. After that, Windows should be able to install correctly (assuming the CD doesn't have a chip or scratch!)
Cheers,
Andy

ouch that is a necessary file to load up windows, it stands for NT loader.
You can also search the support.microsoft.com site on using the recovery console to repair ntldr missing error.
It is never fun to lose that one. You reinstalled windows? what did you reinstall? Try to do a repair of windows using the windows install cd, boot from cd, on the first screen press enter to install windows, on the next screen read through the eula, accept it, then on the next screen press "r" for repair windows. Will take between 40 minutes to an hour.
If you have any trouble, the techs at yto.ca helped me last time, they are paid tech support, but they are AWESOME. You will learn alot if/when they help you too

Since you have already tried to reinstall Windows, trying to save anything on your hard drive is more than likely lost. You need to do a low-level format on the hard drive, then reinstall Windows. If you get the same error message, make sure that your Windows CD is clean. You may also have to momentarily change your CD ROM drive. The drive could be going bad and skipping parts of your install.
Good Luck!!!

Type "Definition of NTLDR " or something like that in the box of the search site as Yahoo, Google, etc. and you'll get what you want more than you need!
