We had a string of horses on high lines, that night we had a huge thunder and lightning storm. We all shot out of our tents thinking the horses would be freaking out, they were all lying down. We think maybe they didn't want to be the tallest thing out there to avoid getting hit by lightning? Maybe the cows are the same, they think there might be lightning coming when it rains?

before it rains, the air pressure drops, which causes flies and bugs to fly lower. the cows lay down to get away from the flies.

if the fly's are flying lower than if they lay down they are not really getting away from the fly's then are they. I think it's so that they have a dry patch of land to eat after the rain stops.
