I am thinking about cruising in September however wanted to know some information about hurricane season around this period of time. Thanks.

Hurricane season is June 1 through December 1.
The cruise lines take every precaution against a hurricane. In some cases they will cancel the cruise, if they feel it is needed. But, if you are at sea, the captain and crew constantly monitor the weather (this is true for any cruise) If they see a storm they will navigate around it. Many, many cruises sail each year during hurricane season, they have to be extremely careful during this time of year, as with any other time of the year, to make sure that the passengers are safe.
I've been on cruises during hurricane season and never really had any problems. A few years ago when there were a lot of hurricanes, we ended up sailing longer and we had to return to a different home port because we couldn't dock at the original port. Everyone was completely safe, and I never felt like I was at danger.
A couple of things to consider when going during hurricane season. First, if you are really wanting to visit a specific port, you may consider going at a time other than hurricane season. In some cases, when there is a hurricane and they have to navigate around a storm, they may not be able to visit the original ports they had planned. Second, if you are worried about having sea sickness while onboard, hurricane season may not be the best time to go. If there would be a bad storm, you are going to have a lot of big waves and that is when most people have problems on cruises. The rest of the year, you are pretty safe for avoiding higher seas, but there is a chance. For example, during the winter months, you are more likely to get a rocky cruise because of the cold fronts causing storms. Finally, if you choose to go during hurricane season, you must get the travel protection. You never know what could happen and you want to be covered. It will protect you for a lot of things some people don't even think about. If your plane is late, the insurance will cover any costs if you miss the ship, etc. But, it will also cover you if you get sick, it costs $25,000 if you have to be taken off of the ship by the coast guard because you get sick. But the insurance is a must for hurricane season, I feel it is really important to have for any cruise, but especially during a season as unpredictable as hurricane season.
I sail all the time during the hurricane season, the cruise line is going to take good care of you and they won't do anything that could potentially put you in danger. The biggest benefit to sailing during this time is the price of the cruise, you won't find rates lower than these couple of months.

Here's a break down for you,
The Atlantic hurricane season begins June 1 and ends November 30. The East Pacific hurricane season runs from May 15 through November 30, with peak activity occurring during July through September.
We experienced very rough weather during September and have decided not to cruise in that month. I would suggest trying like late October or November or earlier like May or June, your less likely to run into rough weather this way.
The cruise lines can't always dodge these big storms either. Our very first cruise was quit a scary one which is why we don't go in September. We were on cruise lines private island which we had to take a water taxi to get there. Every thing was fine until a major storm came out of no where. They started to evacuate the island and off in the distance we could see other cruise ships approaching our ship. The waves were very high and it was throwing the water taxi's all over the place. Once they got close to the ship they were able to use the ship as cover to unload the water taxi's.
That night the ship was rocking so bad the formal dining room was pretty empty mostly because of people getting sick. The water in the glasses were rocking back and fourth and moving items on the table around. The staff had bowls of motion sickness medicine every where...what fun! If I find those pictures I'll email some to you to see...it was something!
You also you might want to find a newer ship to go on, they offer more amenities and the ship is equipped with better stabilizers then some of the older ships.

September is during the Atlantic hurricane season, which lasts from June through October. It would be somewhat risky to book a cruise for that time, but it doesn't mean that it is a guaranteed cancellation either. I go to Orlando in September a lot and I have always been okay, but last year there was Hurricane Rita that was hanging around off the coast............but I think it was closer to Texas if I am remembering right. If your cruise gets cancelled, the company should take care of you either with a refund or a rescheduling. I would clarify that with the cruising company before I scheduled the cruise just to be sure.

May thru November is Hurricane Season.
You have a 50/50 shot of a good cruise in September. I've been to Miami in October the last three years, and always managed to go in between hurricanes.
Usually, the cruises are re-routed, and sometimes you get a voucher for a free or discounted future cruise. That happened to a friend of mine about 10 years ago.

Hurrican season runs from June 1st through November 30th. I wouldn't let it stop you from booking a cruise in September, because the weather is all in God's hands and cruises are cheaper around this time. Yes, cruise ship do change routes due to hurricanes.

Hurricane season is June 1-Nov. 1. But cruise lines do re-route their trips if there is a storm brewing out there. September is actually one of the months that does get hit. But than again. You never know. Good Luck. Have Fun!

June 1st through December 1st, but hurricanes can happen at any time. This is the "season" because it's when the waters are the warmest.
I don't recommend September...that's been a bad month the last couple of years.

That's peek hurricane season. Usually cruises are a lot cheaper around that time.
