"Bugatti EB 18/6 Veyron - fastest road car" , Sat 20 Oct 04:15
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The world's fastest car is the Bugatti EB18/6 Veyron, which arrives by 2003. The car is built by VW and designed to beat the record for the highest top speed for a road car. The car will manage well over 250 mph, and you can find out more information through the website: http://www.online-supercars.com .
humm maybe this too sorry
The Ferrari Enzo, the world's fastest car, is a technological showcase on wheels, but it has one serious flaw. It's hard to park.
The 300kmh car proved to be a handful yesterday as it was being manoeuvred on to the Ferrari stand at the Sydney Motor Show, which opens at Darling Harbour tonight.
With sweat beading on his forehead, Lenn Kench, a Ferrari technician for 26 years, had the task of avoiding cranes, construction workers and a neighbouring $600,000 Lamborghini - as he parked the $2 million Ferrari.
The exercise required five helpers, a dozen timber ramps - and countless 20-point turns.
Despite having driven "hundreds" of Ferraris, it was a nerve-racking experience.

"You never stop feeling nervous driving these things," Mr Kench said yesterday. "Reverse is a tiny button on the steering wheel in this car, so it was in a different spot every time I turned the wheel".
Mr Kench, who usually drives a Jeep, is the only person in Australia to drive the Ferrari Enzo. He drove it out of the air freight container, on to a transporter and then on to the show stand.
Despite the price - "about $2 million should cover it", say Ferrari officials - and the fact that it cannot be registered for road use locally, nine Australians have ordered an Enzo. Only 399 will be made.
The first customer car arrives next April and the remaining ones will follow at a rate of one every three months, but we'll never know who is on the list. Ferrari does not reveal buyer details because, rather ironically, its customers prefer discretion.
The Enzo, with its Formula One-inspired body, looks as though it is moving even when it is standing still.
It is the star of this year's show and will be joined by the world's fastest 4WD, the Porsche Cayenne, which is making its local debut just weeks after being unveiled at the Paris Motor Show.
But the $200,000 Cayenne, capable of reaching 266kmh, almost did not make it. The Porsche factory was affected by the recent floods in Bratislava and the Cayenne allocated to Australia was delayed.
It arrived by air late on Tuesday night and was due to clear customs last night before being rushed to the show stand early this morning.

Fastest Car in the world?
Make all the claims ya want guys BUT the OFFICIAL world record for the fastest stock production car was ( read WAS) the McLearen F1 with a price close to 1.4 million US dollars. That record stood until 2 weeks ago (end of March 2005). Koenig ... yes Koenig; the aftermarket body parts manufacturer; has built a car called the Koenigsegg. It has a top end of 388 kph (255 mph) and is a production car. The price is close $350,000 US dollars. Go check out their official website at www.koenigsegg.se . Now I am a Chevydewd hardcore and would love to see something domestic take this back (like the Buick GNX) but will have to wait and watch for now.
I believe this record still stands for the fastest production car, not the rocket cars that go 1200 mph

The car that holds the world's record for speed (676 MPH) is The Blue Flame, which was actually a rocket on wheels. Unofficially, The Budweiser Special, which was also a rocket on wheels, beat The Blue Flame and allegedly broke the sound barrier, but since top speed was not verified to the satisfaction of the writers of the Guinness Book of World Records, it doesn't hold the official record. P.S.: Top-fuel dragsters and funny cars go a heck of a lot faster (300+ MPH) than any car with a standard combustion engine like a Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc.

Thrust SSC. It has acheived a speed greater than Mach 1 with a maximum speed of 1227 km/h (763mph), so far the only land vehicle to have broken the sound barrier. There is a simulator using its onboard and telemetry data at the Coventry Museum of Transport, Coventry, West Midlands, England. It's great fun and it's free!
