Contemplating a move....Currently live in West Palm Beach Fla. Tired of this state....
Grew up in Houston, but husband won't go there. I love Tx, wouldn't mind moving back.

Austin or Dallas I'm thinking. I've been to both a few times during my college years...but not enough to make a decision as to whether of not I would take up residence there now that I'm an adult w/ a fam. Nice, huge inexpensive homes...better schools than here....wouldn't mind giving it a shot.

What are your thoughts....?
Help.

Of those two I would say Austin but not the City proper on the Outskirts like Round Rock or even slightly north of there. Lake Travis is Nice and although the Oasis burnt down I think they have rebuilt it. The sunset on lake Travis is awesome.
Dallas is getting worse all the time although surrounding Cities are not as bad. Some place like McKinney or Frisco but stay out of Dallas unless you want to spend half your day in traffic and the other half in the emergency room from road rage injuries.
I live North of Dallas and avoid it at all costs. Dallas use to be a great town but not anymore.
You would never be able to afford a ranch in Dallas unless you are independently wealthy. I own a 20 acre ranch and raise llamas and horses and can still live comfortable and afford taxes.
In Texas we don't pay personal property tax or state tax just sales tax and the regular property taxes.

Dallas is the old-money conservative big city of Texas. Austin is the hiippie up-and-comer. Complete opposite ends of the spectrum.

Dallas is extremely diversified economically and business-wise. Austin is tech-heavy.

More to do and see in Dallas, but more natural beauty in and around Austin.

What I dislike about Austin is the big college town atmosphere and all the weirdos that a state capitol attracts with all its political activism.

Basically, it may boil down to your politics. Austin is definitely an LA wanna-be. Very un-Texas like liberalism.

I like Dallas better personally. Of course I haven't done any research on cost of living and things like that, I just like the city better.
