I have done 3 interviews for an entry-level job. The first was a screening interview, the 2nd an interview with the boss, and the 3rd interview where I sat in the office and got to know the work and the other employees. When I left, the boss told me that I did a great job, and that he knew the other employees thought I was a great fit, which is what the job is all about. Then he told me he'd be in touch with me. It has now been a week and I have heard nothing. The employees told me the next step is a social interview which is critical, but when may this happen? I know the guy is still interviewing, and is planning on hiring 2-3 people, but when can I expect to hear by? Also, I sent him a thank you email 2 business days after the interview just to stay in touch and have still not heard either way. Is it a lost cause?

There are probably multiple candidates for these positions and the company is probably trying to juggle multiple schedules in regards to interviewing as many candidates as possible. It is hard to say when you should expect to hear from the company, however, I would recommend waiting 2 weeks (1 week minimum) before following up with them. If the position does not need to be filled immediately, then it is not a priority for the company....only a priority for you.

It is not a lost cause, however to make yourself feel better while you wait to hear from the company, I would continue your job search. If another opportunity comes along, and you still have not heard from the original company, then you will need to decide between accepting the other position or whether you want to wait to hear from the original company....in which case you can contact the original company to let them know that you have another opportunity, but would like to know if they will be making offers soon. Don't pressure them into making any offers, however if they really want you on board, they may speed up the process on their end.

Good luck!

The Boss should have told you what to expect, Do not send anymore Thank You Notes, Your next step would be to contact the person in charge of HIRING, Just ask them when we last spoke I left there not knowing just when will I receive feedback as to the next phase of me getting hired, I'm ready to work would like to know have you completed your hiring/chosen the employee for the position? Wait for reply. That way you put the ball in their court making them give you an answer. I HATE IT WHEN THEY DO THAT MESS, YOUR TIME IS JUST THAT YOUR TIME, AND YOU DESERVE TO BE GIVEN AN ANSWER. Especially after all that they put you through. TAKE CARE, I HOPE YOU GET THE JOB IF THIS IS WHAT YOU WANT, And IF NOT REMEMBER THERE ARE OTHER JOBS OUT THERE. And know that when an employer sees that you fit what they are looking for they want put/take you through so much RED TAPE they will just HIRE YOU.

well mate its not over till the fat lady sings, never give up, but at the same time i think you should not entirely depend on this one interview, lest you may be too disappointed..... choosing eligible candidates for a job is difficult, but finding the perfect one 'extremely difficult', i guess your boss wants to do just that and hence is taking a long time, Have faith and if you are the right one for the job, i am certain you will get the job.

Sending a thank you e-mail is ok but most employers would like to see a snail mail version.

In my opinion, calling to get the status of your application couldn't hurt. (about a week later is good)

What type of job is this? The screening process seems pretty tough. You should keep busy by applying to other jobs.

Good Luck!!!

It is not a loss cause!
You are over anxious.
You are one person, taking care of one person.
The other guy is one person interviewing who knows how many and trying to fill three jobs vacancies.
Show yourself patient as you continue your job search.
