Since we are talking about Bytes here, which has a basis in binary, the correct answer is 1024MB in a 1GB.
The usual calculations by most people only use the 1000 increment because remembering to use 1024 gets to complex for most people. Especially if you are trying to figure out for example just what 564758KB is in GigaBytes.

One note of correction: A single byte of data in BCD is not 1024 bits, unless something has changed drastically since I was an active MSEE. Depending on which system you use, the number of bits per byte can run from 5 in the very early codes to 12 in some that use parity, start, stop, or other bits.

It is not 1000 it is by powers so 1024 mb = 1 gig
