That nothing ever changes... people are still people... but then, I'm 61 already and too old for persuasion now;-)

I find the Religion and Society section particularly interesting: it's very much dominated by Americans who are mostly either dogmatically Christian or dogmatically atheist. It can be very funny to see them going at it hammer and tongs, but depressing to see the lack of communication (people quoting chapter and verse and ignoring the thrust of the question). But what I learnt concretely was of the movements of the Invisible Pink Unicorn and the Flying Spaghetti Monster (wikipedia it if you don't know it!), which do have a serious function in combatting the teaching of Intelligent Design and in highlighting some of the mystifications and inconsistencies of Christianity.
Obviously I'm speaking from a biassed viewpoint, but as a total generalisation I've learnt that although atheists tend to reduce debate through flippancy, they are more likely to actually engage with the issues raised by the questioners... sadly blind faith does seem to depend on blindness: to paraphrase Eddie Izzard, Christians often tend to say "you're wrong... because you are!"

Well... I already knew that society is pretty messed up, but this site has just reinforced this for me- Don't get me wrong, there are a few decent people out there, but there are just a lot of 'others' out there who are content with taking the mickey out of everything, and are just plain inconsiderate. I mean people on here ask some positive or quite serious questions that they want people to answer to give them advice- and then there are those who are just out to corrupt everything. Fair enough people can have a laugh, but some just don't know where to draw the line! Good people take a stand and put an end to the corruption of the stupid!

I've learnt that I really don't understand why people put question marks at the end of sentences which aren't even questions. A question is only a question if it asks a question, not if it makes a statement about a question.
Oh, and apart from the fact that spelling, grammar and the ability to construct a sentence in English are basic skills that escape the majority of users of this site, there are some (genuinely?) nice, helpful people out there.

Well we all know that obesity in America is a problem and after perusing this website, I better understand why. People spend so much time on the internet, just sitting, not getting exercise that the obesity problem makes sense. Now I'm not excluding myself from this as I am answering questions as well, I just have a better understanding of that aspect of society now.

I have learnt to really appreciate democracy - where all kinds of people are allowed to co-exist with their own views and methods of thinking. I have received answers saying nothing but "thanks for the two points" to elaborate explanations to my other questions. I have seen many people spread propaganda about religion and region, and a few really helpful people. Many of the answers are spewed with words children usually don't use when speaking to their parents - i wonder if these people are really venting their anger and frustration under the anonymity of their Yahoo profiles...
Overall it has been a really great learning experience

(Sorry my fellow Answerers from across the pond but ... ) The vast majority of Americans seem to think they're the only country in the world. It explains a lot ...

There are some lovely people out there, and there are some obnoxious horrible people as well.
Many of them are American. American's don't understand British humour and it can lead to friction!

That there are people out there who not only have trouble with spelling, punctuation and grammar, but also can't actually construct a sentence that makes sense...

Some people should spend more time in school and actually doing something with that time except picking their noses.
Some questions were more topic oriented then others and I did not find 1 single question to enlighten me on my view on society.
You are welcome.
