is anyone else tired of people coming into question about rap or hip-hop sayin stuff like rap sucks go back to mcdonalds or learn to type or shyte like dat. i mean if u dont like rap then dont waste ur time in da question. jus because u listen to rap doesnt mean ur a low life who cant spell. i jus slang. i dont make fun of anybody because of the music they listen to or the way they talk. i leave them alone. everybody thinks all rappers are alike....they rap about how they got shot and girls and shyte like dat even though that is true alot of rappers dont rap about that. so if you dont no about something dont critisize it. the last thing i do is go into a question about rock or country and say o thats stupid get a life listen to rap. helll no. i no half of these answer will be by haters but i want ur opinion.

I get annoyed by closed-minded people, regardless of the topic of conversation; but I find music snobs especially aggravating.

First of all, a person's taste in music is not necessarily a "choice." To some extent it's what you're exposed to in childhood, but what it really comes down to is what appeals to you. I liken it to a person's taste in food -- some people love broccoli while others can't stand it -- it's a matter of what appeals to that individual's senses. Therefore, it is not something that you can base a character judgement on.

I grew up in the '70s and '80s, I heard the church hymns we'd sing, the classical music and jazz my parents listened to, and the popular music on the radio (and eventually MTV). My taste in music is very eclectic, and what mostly appeals to me are original works with clever, meaningful lyrics. But as someone who's been singing all her life, I can enjoy a good melody, even it the lyrics are redundant to a million other songs or if the song is otherwise lame. Sometimes I can be drawn in by the beat -- which is often the case with hip-hop. I may despise the lyrics because it's about picking up a girl at the club and using her, but if the beat is goo, I can't turn it off.

You don't need to come on a site like this to try to prove a point. You know who you are, an that's all that matters. My 15-year-old son also loves hip-hop, plays basketball, and has many friends that are black. It stuns me how often other ignorant people say stuff to him about how he's not black -- so what? He's a good kid. He's 15, he's a hard worker, he doesn't drink or get high (and tries to get his friends that do to stop), and HE DOESN'T JUDGE OTHERS BASED ON THEIR TASTE IN CLOTHING OR MUSIC OR HOBBIES.

You won't be able to change the world here, because the anonymity makes it so anyone can "be" or say anything. Because it's not a face-to-face interaction, people who know absolutely NOTHING about a topic, will jump in with their two cents. That's what ignorance is -- not knowing about something; but it's STUPIDITY that makes them think that their uninformed opinion means something.

The difference you will make is in your day-to-day life. Just be yourself, live with dignity, and let the people you meet along the way be impressed by you. That's the only way you'll really make an impression.

BTW - a great website for original hip-hop and R&B is http://www.okayplayer.com/

I agree that it's rude to go into the question with the sole intention of telling that person you hate what they are talking about. I've seen someone ask about a song and there's an answer like, "rap sucks" and that's not cool.
I'm not a big fan of rap, but you do what you do, and I'll do what I do. I am a spelling Nazi though. But I can tell the difference between slang and misspelled words.

I just tell them to listen to real rap and stop judging the entire genre by the artists that the music industry continues to put out. Listen to A Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, Gangstarr, Immortal Technique, Little Brother, Murs and a bunch of others and tell me that rap isn't a respectable genre...if a person can do that then they are truly ignorant.

sorry, but stuff on the radio nowadays is horrible. There are so many good rappers in Holy Hip-Hop, that they definately are a lot better than people like little john. hes a joke. One of the best people I ever heard rap is a guy named Rob Hodge. Check him out if u get a chance.

I'm not into rap, and I have criticized it when I"m sick of hearing it all the time, but you're right. We have no right.
If you want the truth, people just get tired of hearing the English language mangled on purpose, and today's music dominated by hip hop and rap.
People like change, and variety, and they'e not getting it.

If you listen to it, it's fine. But people, like me, are seeing a lack of creativity in today's music, since the majority of it sounds alike.

Well,I dont care for rap but feel everyone is entitled to their own opinion..even if its negative..thats what this place is for to speak out and no one has to kiss my tush or hate me just because I believe what I do or know what I do..I in turn respect their opinion whether or not I agree with them..rock on..

Yeah I agree with you people shouldn't judge other people by what they listen to but hey, the world is f*cked up right now.

If you can spell I think you should because it's kind of hard to read sometimes. No offence meant.
