Usually if the company has already called you once, chances are they will let you know. You need to call the company and speak with the person that interviewed you to let them know you are still interested in the position (Try not to sound too over eager, cause that can sometimes happen) and you were just checking on the progress. If they have made their decision then they will let you know right then, if not they will thank you for the call and usually give you an estimate as to when the decision will be made. Did you send a thank you card or anything after the interview...it is a good practice to get in just to let them know you appreciate them taking the time to meet with you and discuss your possible future with their company. That will usually get a response as well :)

It is good etiquette for the company to let you know either way, however not all companies follow proper etiquette when it comes to hiring candidates. At the minimum if they called you once, I would assume they would at least send you an email with the status (in case they interviewed numerous candidates).
It is possible they are still deciding or interviewing additional candidates. If this position does not need to be filled immediately, it can sometimes take a company a few months to make a final decision as it may not be a priority for them.
If you are still interested in the position, call the company to find out the status and if they need any additional information from you, such as references.
If you find out they have filled the position, thank them for the time they took to interview you and that you are still interested in working for the company if any other positions become available.
Keep the phone call short, simple, and to the point.
Good luck!

It is courtesy to contact you either way, but you have to remember some companies do hundreds of interviews and they simply don't plan to call everyone of those people back. That's why sometimes you will see when you apply only those selected will be contacted. Just don't expect too much. If they call you, they call you, if they don't, they don't. I have a cousin that thought just like you and was really disappointed when after a month of waiting, decided to call the company back and they told him they filled the position. He could not understand why they didn't call him back to tell him. Customer service is not what it used to be.

It seems like letting you know one way or the other would be the professional thing to do, but it rarely happens. To be fair, who wants to call the 20 other people they interviewed and tell them that they did not get the job?

It would be nice to hear either way from a company but unfortunately most do not contact you if they have decided not to hire you.
If it's been two weeks or more since that call, contact them, let them know you are very interested in working for them and want to know if they have hired anyone.
It can work well for you. Even if they've hired someone, your eagerness may help you to get another position with them in the future.

It is the professional and nice thing to do but some companies just have to many applicants to call everyone. In those cases though I think they should at least give a date that they will call you by if you do get the job. Waiting can be rather difficult and trying.

Most of them will say they'll let you know one way or another. From personal experience, I've found that half of the time they actually do call you (or email) to let you know if you got it or not. The other half, you're just left wondering. If you're in doubt, give them a call. If by chance they're still working on a decision, your call will show that you're still interested. If they've already filled the position, then at least you'll know.

If you get the job, they'll call. If not, standard practice for mot companies is to send a rejection letter. Here's hoping you get the call telling you that you're hired!!! Good luck!

no not usually. generally if you don't hear anything back that means they have found someone else for the position. it sucks, they should have the decency to respond and not leave us hanging. one thing I was always told was to call them after a while and say "Just wanted to see if there was anything I could do and what's the next step in the process" just so they see you motivated but not overly annoying. good luck to you.
