Best way to meet otaku while shopping?

I'm going to a big city to school shop later in August. I'd like to meet a few otaku (anime fans) there. It's not like New York City or anything, just shops and restaurants and business places everywhere. What are you tips on meeting people?

While you are shopping ask random people if they like anime. Or go to a video game store, a video arcade, or the art section at a book store (alot of anime fans hang out at places like that).
