My fiancee's computer was frozen to the point where I couldn't click on any icons or the start menu. So I reinstalled/repaired windows with the CD. It was a successful install. I was using it. All of her old files were there.
Then I went to "Log off". I meant to hit shut down, but I logged off instead. I didn't think much of it.
Now it wants a user name and password to get back on. We don't have a user name and password. Three years ago (when she first got the computer) she had a password on it. I entered that old password and it does not accept it.
She has not used a password on this computer in two years... no combination of username and password I can think of will work. (Tried admin, tried the word 'password,' tried her old password.
Please help! I don't want this computer to ask for a password. I just want it to start up like a normal computer!! Thanks.

Mine did this, just put in the user name of your space and leave the password field blank. It may work, then, once logged on, go into user accounts and make sure the tick box which says 'Show Welcome Screen'. Do this if you have multiple accounts.
If, when you installed windows again, did you insert a administrator password? It asks you when you install it.This should be the password to use.
If not, username Administrator, password [none] or admin
Hope this helps!!!

u didnt mensioned which windows? i suppose it is windows xp
if yes then try this --
Strategy 1-->
1) when login screen appears, press ctrl+alt+del then text
box will appear.
put login name as "administrator" (without quotes)
2)after login to administrator go to control panel and delete password of that user.
i guess i would work if u didn't give administrator password while installing windows.
Strategy 2-->install dual boot os(new xp copy)
strategy 3-->take off ur harddisk and backup files using another computer and install new os and then restored important backup files again.
strategy 4-->use windows password crackers (Last strategy)...LOL

First of all, try a cold reboot. That's pull the plug out of the wall and plug it back in after awhile. This'll set off the "Scan Disc" function. Anything irrelevant will get truncated. So this should solve the problem.
If this doesn't work, then I'm afraid you'll need to do a full uninstall and re-install again.

reboot the computer, press F8 to enter safe mode, then you can see the default administrator on the welcome screen
login the administrator account, go to control panel, users, remove your account password. this will solved your problem if the administrator password is blank.
oh, I just think of a quicker way,
press ctrl + alt + del twice
type in administrator in the login name and leave the password blank

many system makers have a default administrator password setup for the recovery CD. Check the user manual. If you don't have one get the PDF version from the makers website. Since you did not mention the brand or model of your system, I cannot provide you with the links.

If you're completely locked out of your computer, you'll need software. Such services include Login Recovery (http://www.loginrecovery.com/), FastCrack (http://www.fastcrack.com/), and NT Password and Registry Editor (http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/). Each is free. They make use of boot disks that you can download to a floppy or burn to CD. Of course, you'll have to use some other computer to do the downloading.

Did you try turning it off and then back on again?
Or leaving the password field blank?
If that doesn't work, restart and then go into Safe mode and overwrite it

go back to my previous answer on my previous question. you will probably need to pull the data off using Knoppix. and then reload everything at this point, unless you can find a password recovery program.
