JORDAN AND I WISH PEOPLE WOULD STOP ASKING THIS DUMB QUESTION. ITS JORDAN!!
ALSO DWYANE WADE IS GOOD BUT CCOOOMMMEE ON YOU CANT COMPARE HIM OR ANYBODY ELSE FOR THAT MATTER TO JORDAN. MAYBE AFTER A PLAYER HAS BEEN IN THE LEAGUE FOR SAY 10 YEARS AND YOU CAN SEE WHAT HE HAS DONE THEN YOU CAN START COMPARING. BUT TO COMPARE ANY PLAYER THATS BEEN IN THE LEAGUE FOR 3-4 YEARS.... NO WAY.

uh...Michael Jordan. I'm not sure this is debatable. Jordan did EVERYTHING on the court. He was hyper-talented and hyper-competitive. He won the NBA Championship in each of his last six full seasons (not counting the cheesy Wizards comeback)and one of his teams holds the all-time NBA record for wins in one season. Jordan WAS basketball during his era. He still IS basketball today, and he doesn't even play. He's the most recognizable sports figure in the entire world - only the best of the best soccer players could even be mentioned in the same breath of fame.
Jordan is the only answer.

You have to look at how certain players from different eras would fare playing current talent. People who say Wilt or Russell, do you think they could compete with Hakeem Olajuwon or Shaq, I don't think so. Granted 9 championships by Russell will never be topped, but he won those in an era where players weren't the athletes they are today. To me it's an obvious choice. Michael Jordan, hands down. 6 titles in this era without an imposing force down in the blocks; Kareem, Olajuwon, Duncan/Robison, Shaq, Ben Wallace. Of course he had Rodman but he won 3 with out him. Sorry but Dwayne wouldn't have won without the Diesel and nor would have Kobe and I love Kobe. Of the current players, the ones with a chance to go down as one of the greatest of all time I believe are Kobe and Lebron.

the best basketball player ever is Michael Jordan, there is no question about it. he led the Bulls to 6 titles in the mid 90s and none of those Bulls teams had dominating centers, so what MJ did wuz really really special, he was a very special player. The 2nd best player ever is probably Bill Russell, he led the celtics to 11 titles.

Allen Ogg. Former center for the Miami Heat back in the early 90's then a top notch player for The Columbus Horizon in the CBA back in 92-94.

That is impossible to answer, because they all didn't play at the same time. There are greats at each position, so you can't compare. A great scorer needs a great assist man, etc.
Oscar Robertson
Lew Alcindor/Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Dr. J
MJ
Steve Nash
Willis Reed
Jerry West (the symbol for the NBA is him)
