unfortunately, I think they are. Congress even has it's own "special" police force. When Patrick Kennedy was recently picked up for driving erratically, and under the influence of medication, I believe it was..the DC police were told that the Congressional police would take care of the situation. Now, it's not just because I'm a conservative and he's a Democrat, but I think that's crap. Since they are there as representatives of us, they should be subject to the same rules/laws as us...and the same punishments. Regardless of party affiliation.

No. Politicians are not from now on above the regulation. No guidelines were damaged as no guidelines at the moment govern MP's prices only a set of rules which aren't from now on legally binding. it is why entire reform is needed. If I over-claimed for issues and did not keep in the rules i ought to lose my interest yet couldn't be prosecuted except I had committed fraud. those MP's which have committed fraud are not from now on above the regulation and with somewhat of success will be prosecuted even as the self sufficient evaluation is done

They are not above the law although many seem to thing so.
They make the laws to protect their fellow politicians.
If arrested and tried, depending on who they are, the prosecution has a tough time getting a conviction because of jury bias. Try to imagine convicting Ted Kennedy of anything short of mass murder in Massachusetts. Remember he
killed Mary Jo Kopechne off Chappaquiddick Island and wasn't even charged.

Because there are enough loopholes in the law that anyone can get acquitted of anything, assuming they have enough money to hire enough attorneys to find the aforementioned loophole. Politicians tend to be wealthy, therefore they tend to be able to hire lots of good attorneys, who tend to find loopholes, which tend to acquit guilty people.

Politicians are not above the law; however, the frequency and newsworthyness of what often turn out to be false charges makes it seem so. This is true of celebrities as well.

Sadly money can buy some consciences. Sadly some people give more value to money than it should be....there is more value in honesty, ethics, truth, freindhsip, respect than any money could buy.

But is how sometimes the system works and is working and we all members of society are letting that happen with daily actions...

Not entirely, but they do get preferential treatment. Often they are guilty of serious crimes but get handed lighter sentences, or slaps on the wrist. This is because they are rich and powerful enough to hire good lawyers to defend them.

no one is above the law...politicians get out of jails just because of corrupt ppl helping them out...so that politicians can help the same ppl when they have their asses on fire..
