Because it takes some effort to "make" something, while it is simple and easy to "have" something. To "make" infers an effort which "having" does not. To "have" infers you have obtained it already. There is a point in a relationship where you "have" love. However, you can never consistently "have" the sexual loving portion of a love bonded relationship. It continues over the course of a relationship and is ever changing. To have means it is a finished product and you now possess it. Regardless of how long you are having sex with a person when it is over, which it invariably is, you still 'had' sex with that person. It is a finished product. We continue to "make" love throughout our entire relationship, it is never a finished product, so we refer to it as "making" love. Now, we can "have" love. Love does continue to evolve and is ever changing, growing deeper, but once the love exists we do "have" it. But the physical act of making love is never a completed project or possession. It is an intentional act of committing ones self to the creation of physical loving between to loving people.

Hope that helps some, have a great day.

Good question. I guess it's like the old saying, "It is better to give then receive." I guess making love is "giving" and having sex is "receiving." Does that make sense? Let me try again... I guess that's why married or devoted couples would use the term making love versus having sex because they want to pleasure their partner, hence the word used "make" in make love, you have to work at it! But "having" sex seems kind of meaningless and you just take whatever you get, hence the word "have," no real effort is involved. At least that's my interpretation of the difference.

Well having sex and making love is just a title you give to certain relationship. for example if your dating around then your just having sex but if your in a careful relation then your making some good tender love, which means you put more thought and time in to the hole ordeal.

GOD gave us the power to make love/have sex for reproduction that is why the feeling is soo strong, BUT since we have free will we confuse this horny feeling with a need! And an itch so we must scratch!

Making love is more romantic then just sex. Making love is pleasing your partner and them pleasing you. Sex is more get to the point and release tension.

making love is the euphamisim for having sex, you cant make love, you either love someone or you dont, and you can have sex with people you hate, so thats the animal side of humanity.

We do have sex
When we are young and silly and we go on holiday with our friends(regardless whether your male or female)and have SEX with anyone that remotely shows the slightest bit of interest.
When we are older and more sensible and we go away with our partners(whether your male or female) and MAKE LOVE.
The biggest difference is how you feel towards some-one.
If they mean little to us then we have sex
If they mean everything to us then we make love

i think that having sex is very different from making love, making love is getting very close to the person u love so much having sex to me is not true intimacy it's just about being satisfied and that's it

It seems another attempt to distance ourselves from our animal origins. It suggests that sex is there, to be had, whenever by whomever, but that "love" has to be made. The reality is they have identical meanings in our society and are used interchangeably.
