My god, why do people post answers to questions that they know nothing about? Xaviar (or some twit who posted an answer to this question) must have just landed from mars or xanussi as I live in Cyprus and there is definately NO WAR here.
Also where does Joy L get her info. from? The people who are being transported from Lebanon are merely using Cyprus as a go between and if they do stay on the island then it is only for 24hours and this is only at the forces base. We are by no means being swamped with refugees.

Of course there isn't a war going on in Cyprus. There's a war going on between Israel and Lebanon (well Hezbollah anyway). Thousands of foreign nationals are currently being evacuated out of Lebanon. Cyprus is the closest country available to accept these nationals so they're being ferried there and then flown home to their respective countries.
Watch the BBC news tonight or SkyNews Live at 5. Your friend should do the same!
Have a great hol. Hopefully all of these evacuations will be finished by the time you leave for Cyprus.

I guess u are US. The war is at Lebanon between Israel and Lebanon. It has NOTHING to do with Cyprus. U heard Cyprus because they evacuating people from Lebanon mostly with Greek ships which take the people from Lebanon to Cyprus so they can take a flight a go home cause in Lebanon the airport doesn't work.
It's 100% safe to go there don't worry
Ask your embassy or your travel agent they'll tell u the same
Have a nice time!!!

No there isn't a war there...the island is indeed split in two: the greek and turkish sides, but you probably refer to the evacuation of foreign nationals from Lebanon, which is at war with Israel...Cyprus is just the nearest EU country there, that's why warships and ships in general that carry people off Lebanon dock there

The UK are moving nationals out of Lebanon to Cyprus to get them home.
There has also been difficulties between the Turkish and Greek communities for years but it doesn't stop tourism. See below.

Nope, but the island is divided in a northern and southern part. The Northern part haas been occupied by Turkey since 1974 and is called: "Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus" but it's officially only recognized by Turkey.
The southern part of the island is "The Republic of Cyprus" which is recognized by the rest of the world. It is also a member of the European Union since 1st of may 2004.
The northern and southern parts of Cyprus is separated by the United Nations controlled Green Line
