The current flag is the old Ethiopian flag with the Lion of Judah(in fact) symbol. The meaning of the colors in the Ethiopian flag is: red for the blood, gold for the minerals & resources and green for the land.
In Rastafari, "The Lion of Judah" represents His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I. Rastas hold that Selassie is a direct descendant of the Israelite Tribe of Judah through the lineage of King David and Solomon, and that he is also the Lion of Judah mentioned in the Book of Revelation.

The question is really about something Ethiopian...not Jamaican.

It's called the Lion of Judah. Represents the Throne of David, on which Haile Sellassie (RasTafari) rules.

Read through Revelations for references to the significance of the Lion of Judah.

The colors, Red-Gold-Green, are the national colors of Ethiopia. They date back to the time of King Solomon of Isreal. Solomon had a son with Queen Makeeda of Sheba (Abyssinia). When the son, named Menelik (meaning son of the wiseman), was grown he visited his father Solomon in Isreal. His father was impressed by his son and offered him the throne of Isreal. Menelik declined the offer, as he promised his mother to return. Solomon agreed to bless his return only if he were to take with him the first born sons of his high priests so as to ensure he would maintain the Laws of the God of Isreal. The high priests were in charge of the Ark of The Covenant, and the first born sons were to take over those duties. Afraid of leaving behind the Ark, the high priests sons snuck the Ark out of Isreal when they departed. Along the journey, Menelik found out that the Ark was removed from Solomon's temple. He reasoned that it must be in the Will of God that he return to Abyssinia with the Ark because they had made it that far in the journey without incident.

They unveiled the Ark and it had a radiant glow around it in the form of a rainbow with the colors...red gold and green...Hence the colors of the flag. The Ark still rests in Ethiopia and the Throne of David continued until Shiloh (it reached the Rightful Ruler- Haile Sellassie)

So now you see it on display by Rastamen and women all over the world.
