Federal minimum wage is $5.15/hour. however for jobs which the employee receives tips, i.e. a waitress the hour wage is lower at times due to the tip making up the difference.

That's set by the Federal gov. I think it is $5.50. They exempt a lot of jobs from that like cafeteria workers, dry cleaners. If in doubt go the the Texas Workforce Commission website.
