He became a safe place and a constant in change;
I learnt I could trust him and soon trusted myself.
He was worldly and wise beyond his time
With no need to speak his soul would mime.
After some time with him I looked over, smiled
And continued along my way;
With trust in my heart and a place I could go
I was free to leave my small world and go out on my own.

I understood that one day I’d understand
So I followed my feet and walked foreign lands.
I met the people of the world
And helped them believe that they could trust.
I didn’t speak and they knew my mind
And with time they smiled and continued along their way.

This is a beautiful piece of writing...it is yours? If not, who's it by? My interpretation would start with the line "I understood that one day I’d understand."

Understanding begins only when you're comfortable enough to ask the questions, and wisdom often comes with strife, so too, you must be willing, and recognize, that you will have to struggle for what you want most.

But this does not mean that every road of life will be filled with stones to trip you up, and there is comfort to be had in the knowing. Too, in helping others to trust, so do you, become trusting.

And then, some where along there, you've become the one others use in order to become comfortable with their asking, and the cycle goes on.

It is the walk of faith and a relationship with Jesus Christ. He is a safe place, with full trust in Him there is peace within our own soul. His love needs no words and He knows our soul without words as well. He frees us from the chains of the small world we exist in and opens the reality of eternity. We know that one day He will gives us the answers when we stand before Him and all the Almighty God. But for now we follow where He leads us, to the foreign places. Many people we come to we proclaim His word and help them believe that it is He we should trust our lives with. No words are needed from a true believer because His love radiates through us, the world can see when one is Christ like and when they see love, they will feel love and continue their journey.
That's what I see.

This is an interesting poem; it could be interpreted many ways. Although I am a Unitarian, I beleive in God, but not organized religions, the first thing I thought of was that this is a poem about Jesus, or even God. This could also be a poem about ones Father, earthly, not heavenly, as well. Giving one confidence through his unconditional love for his child, who goes out into the world as a good person who can teach others to trust.

Is this your poem? It's really good, it makes you think, which is one of the goals of poetry, in my mind. If not yours, who wrote it?

I think it's a dumb poem.

Sounds like a teacher at school over the years. I've met worldly and wise teachers beyond their years. Once you leave school you're out in a foreign land because you are having to earn versus study. But who cares?

To me it speaks of the confidence that comes from having faith in a power higher than yourself. It is believing that God is a shelter and our refuge, an ever present help in times of trouble. The part about walking other lands and meeting people means that there are like-minded believers in the world that try to treat others well, the way God intends for us to treat each other.

dan did you write that? somehow it doesn't seem your exact stylr but then again who am i to comment on that. I lik eit it's simple and dynamic. My interpretation, well i am not very clever but i'd say it is not about God beacuse no 1) you don't believe in God and no 2) it seems more physical. I think it's actually not about something per say, more a thought, Yea a belief in yourself through an example of the millions who have done it. I dunno, see you on Aim lata

its a beautiful poem i beleive it is meant to be a poem about how god helps you along the ways of life he is there to help when needed but when not he gives you the choice to go by yourself it has the same meaning i think as the poem called the FOOTPRINTS OF GOD have you read it it goes to show u that GOD is by your side through everything but he gets closer when you need the support
