We have the technology obviously, this appears to be a no-brainer but why isn't it happening????

There has been mention of the expense of these cars as well as the power....what happened to doing something good for humanity instead of ourselves?? I don't see the prices of these cars any more ridiculous in price than any other.

We can blame the oil companies, the government, foreign interests, even aliens, gut the one responsible for the dilemma is the consumer. That's right Sparky! What are you driving now? Are you paying $3 a gallon for gas? If the consumer continues to buy cars for thirty thousand dollars and spend three dollars a gallon for gas, what would you be selling? Sadly, we are our own worst enemy. We spend outrageous amounts of money for new cars and whine about gas going up a dime a gallon. Sorry if this offends you, but we need to stop looking everywhere for blame and answers and look in the mirror. I'm as bad as anyone. I drive a neat little 98 Grand Prix GT 60 miles a day to work and back. I guess I could walk though!

Hybrids are the practical joke played on the customer by the Auto Industry. They have twice as many parts as a gasoline car, and cost more. They also have less power and usually are funny looking.
The Industry just wants the hybrid to be a transition technology until they can get the wasteful hydrogen cars into production. Hydrogen cars are just another way to sell you oil, since H2 production will be created from crude oil.
The enemy is the electric car. Don't ever expect the major automakers to create another one. That would be handing over their entire business infrastructure to the coal companies, plus the electric car is too reliable and would kill companies like Autozone and O'Reilly Auto.

Hybrid's don't make sense or economy for all driving situations. They save gas in city/low speed driving while running on batteries, but run totally on gas at higher speeds
If you do more highway miles than in town, you are running on gasoline, but pulling around the weight of all those batteries and electric motor etc, and are getting less MPG than if you had just a gas engine.
I bet many people will be disappointed with paying 5-10K more for a hybrid, carry around extra weight, and have less storage room, and get poor milage on the highway.
For those that mainly drive short distances on secondary roads in traffic they make sense. Just don't complain when repairs are going to cost a lot because of the complexity, or the price of replacing all those batteries in a few years.

BP... Shell... Exxon... Mobile... need i say more; the two biggest BP and Shell are less than 5% American ownership Marathon they ONLY nationwide 100% American oil company is not even in the top 10
We can drive on alcohol made from corn, soya, and other grains... we can drive on oil "bio-diesel" made from 100's of oil producing plants...

FYI the man Mr. Diesel first developed his engine to run on peanut oil.... the gas companies grabbed it up and started producing diesel fuel a lower quality higher polluting BUT MUCH MORE PROFITABLE source of fuel for the diesel engine
