My old high school which burned down 6 years ago is still there! You know how when you look into space you are seeing stars as they appeared years ago? Well try Google Earth - it is the closest you'll get to time travel without getting glose to a black hole!

What I love about it is the changes in resolution - City of London - you can almost read car number plates; Des Arc, Arkansas - you can hardly make out any geographical features; and my local naval base and nuclear-submarine refitting site has been deliberately pixelated so you can't make out any detail!!!!

Absolutely fabulous! Brilliant! As to how often they update it, the Hi-res aerials of our house were done about 2 years ago. Others I know of in the UK about 1 year to 18 months ago. I would imagine they do it as soon as they get new data.
Don't expect the same results if your area hasn't been surveyed at Hi-res. I looked at the Kamchatka peninsular in Russia's Far East and it's all muddy greens and browns. It's probably all muddy greens and browns if your'e actually standing on it. So that's fine by me. This site can only get better and better!

Yeah - It's class! I seen my house my old house and parents house - I even went and had a look at somewhere in American where a friend lives to see what it's like there. It addictive! lol

Don't know how often it's updated if at all! You can get a better grade I think if you pay for it.

Cheers

I thought it was pretty cool. The site doesn't say how often it is updated, but it can't be too frequently as mapping out the planet must take a long time.

i think it is rubbish am very disappointed with it. I have gone to numerous locations, in fact there were only two places out of 8 that it worked, all it would say was image not available nothing wrong with my computer it is with google earth, waste of space pardon the pun.

I think alot of people on here (YA) come from Google Earth as opposed to Planet Earth!

Its brilliant, I could see my house and I live in the middle of nowhere!

Makes you wonder, if google can see me running around in my garden wearing nothing but fishing waders and a bowler hat then WHO ELSE IS WATCHING...
