Take the ball out, and use a cotton ball, qtip and Rubbing alcohol. The last time I had to do it, I used a pin also. Put alcohol on cotton ball and wipe the rollers, if the dirt doesn't come off the use a qtip with alcohol, and wipe it off. I had to use the pin to "unglue" the dirt from the rollers. Also they make mouse cleaner kits. It comes with a solution and velcro Minimouse pad with velcro ball. All you do is put the ball in, with the solution on it, and rub it on the pad. Not very hard, but I prefer using the alcohol and cotton ball or swab.

Turn your mouse over and unlock the bottom case and remove the track ball from the mouse.

Take a cotton swab, such as a Q-Tip and dip it into Rubbing Alcohol and use that to clean the rollers. You may need to "scrape" a bit of the dirt off as well. I've found that a pair of tweasers usually is good for that.

Both answers are good, but I also use a toothbrush, Using a slightly angled motion that helps scrape off the dirt\dust lint etc which also turns the rollers at the same time to get all the sides of the rollers.

In some cases though, as mentioned you may need to use tweezers to remove fine hair, lint, etc
