Well yes. Example: Say you want to know how guitars work? Intead of researching it you just post the question and get the answer right away. Some people ask questions just because the're boared. But yahoo answers is a goods way to get information easy.

There are many people who are trying to find answers to a problem they have. Of the many who read their problem, there are a few who have the experience to set the questioner on the right path.
Of course, there are always those who give a wise-guy answer, or a lol, or some such.
Also many questions are not serious questions, and don't call for a serious answer.

The meaning of it is not only to pass time but to make you feel good about yourself when you answer other peoples questions or read the stupidity of other peoples Q's.

Its an ego-quest, a joke, a source of spamming and a source of information, misleading as it may be.

What is the meaning of life?

I find it amusing and occasionally throws up some interesting questions

what i do find annoying is the way some people ask questions that could so easily be answered by running a simple web-search

Well that depends on who answers doesn't it?
The idea is to get a response to your questions and queries from a human being who might have some direct experience, rather than from some random database.

I think it does serve a purpose and I try to help reach it. I do answer honestly when I can, but I can only really help when it comes to video game questions--so really, I'm not all that helpful.
