Asked this ? last night - Trying to make it to Boston. Here is more info

Sounds like it is suck in "low gear" and when you try to accellerate to go faster than 40 miles an hour it hits passing gear like when you punch it but nothing happens. Going up a hill it just SLOWS DOWN, cannot accellerate up a hill. Any ideas on repair for the return home?

Since you didn't give much information other than a "Ford Motorhome", it is a little difficult to diagnose. Check fuel pressure and check for a possibly clogged cat. converter or exhaust system - either one will do this and mimic a bad trans.
Don't throw money into a trans if that's not the problem.
I would have to put my money on a plugged cat. converter if I had to guess.

Yup it's as bad as you imagine. Sounds like one of two things. You're either on the edge of a major breakdown, or you just plain have too much junk crammed into it. Either way it looks like you're gonna need to rebuild the tranning.

it may be that the throttle kick down cable is stretched out. there is a cable on the bottom of your throttle body (the gas is the top one) check to see that it is properly(tightly) attached to the throttle body. if that is not the issue you may have a bad trans or torque converter.

You need a transmission shop, Sir. It sounds like something is either slipping internally, or you have a vaccum leak which is preventing it from shifting correctly.

your trans is gone. No quick fix, you will need the trans rebuilt or replaced. Hope you have money for a hotel brother!
