It's normal. Communication is a two way street. Sharing makes it mutually beneficial and enjoyable, not being an ear to a self absorbed blabber mouth.

No, if it's a chronic issue, you're entitled. Some people don't even realize they're doing it, but will take the hint if you try to steer the conversation to other topics. My mother-in-law (who was an only child) still thinks the world revolves around her, won't take the hint. Not much I can do about it except ignore the phone when she shows up on the caller I.D. and keep face to face conversations to a minimum when I can.

It is completely normal, and it doesn't mean you're selfish. It means that you recognize selfish behavior in another person. I went out with a guy a couple of times that bored me to tears---he went on and on about how great he was, his business, his ex, his likes & dislikes....BLAH! I couldn't get in a word, and when I did, he said, "Ah....so I ....blah blah...."
WHAT A BORE!

Nah, it's not selfish to feel that way. It's rude & annoying to blather on about yourself, and not give the other person some room to express themselves, as well. If they're going to do that, they should probably just talk to the mirror!

No your not selfish, conversations are meant to be two sided and not all about one person. I usually just say I have to go and take care of something so I can leave the conversation.

Yes, absolutely normal. You aren't selfish. You just deserve to be part of the conversation, too.

Yes. Very normal. An interesting and intelligent person will want to talk about themselves but also listen to what you have to say in equal ammounts. Someone who is, "me, me, me..." is a bore.

Not normal if you are their shrink and getting paid for it. Need to come up with an answer to their discussion about themselves, not just think about you will be doing with the money you make during the session.

No you're not selfish, they are if they don't share the conversation. It is perfectly normal.
