What Is Ceramics ?

The term "ceramic" refers to any object made of baked clay. There are three types of clay in the potters world; Earthenware, Stoneware & Porcelain. All of them are equally functional for most purposes when glazed, though you would never cook in porcelain. Any glazed ware will be watertight. All the pottery on this site is lead-free and dishwasher safe unless otherwise specified.

Raku is not offered on this site for although it can be very ornate it is not watertight or foodsafe and therefore has limited functionality.

For a thorough discussion of the various clay bodies refer to Ceramics: A Potter's Handbook.

its one of the oldest things made by man, its baked clay products, dishes and pots, vases, jars that hold things. and now its toilets, bathtubs and tiles on the space shuttle, the quality of the product has to do with the specific kind of clay and how its treated, how hot is it fired , and does it have a glaze applied to it
