i have a mazda 626, i stopped at a gas station, it wouldnt start. no clicking no nothing. The battery seemed to be working fine, the phone was still charging and the radio/headlights/etc were working and did not dim. Is this definately a starter problem. If so how much does a starter normally cost (with a mechanic doing it) and how long do mechanics normally take to do it?

If it doesn't turn over when you turn the key, then it could very well be your starter. If it turns over it could be a sign of another problem.

Try asking the guys at askautopro.com if you don't get a good answer here.
Also, just try having someone sit in the driver's seat and start the car while you hit the starter with something. That works sometimes if you're in a pinch and it IS the starter.

the items you mentioned that still work are low powered items, most likely it's your battery, how old is the battery, and the car? try getting somebody to boost you off and see if the battery builds up..
otherwise, go to an auto parts store and ask them to check it for you. It's usually free to have done.
Replace what you know you need replaced, don't use the shotgun approach and start replacing stuff because you THINK that's it.

once you've a lithium battery, then the answer isn't any, no longer authentic. the phone has a cost/discharge circuit outfitted in to circumvent damage to the cellular for over or lower than value. only a gadget and not using a cost/discharge administration circuit will be damaged.

it is possible to be the stater it also could be the ignition switch. It is best to check it out and not just replacing parts. That could cost you a lot of money for nothing

definetly a alternator problem - kinda spendy but you might be able to find one at a parts store a lil cheaper - plus they will give you a core charge if you bring the old one back in

sounds like a starter, or maybe just your ignition, you can pick up a new (used) starter at a junkyard or buy one new
