If you have the right tools, and the drive and responsibility to start and keep a business, you can DEFINITELY make a lot of money on ebay. You can also just sell things on the side, just research on ebay how much the item has been selling for, and expect about that same bid for your item.

The posting fees at eBay will be brutal. But you can sell popular items. First establish a Postive feedback by selling some stuff really really cheap, and ship immediately. Use PayPal for small stuff. Remember, you have to be "Mr. nice guy".
Here are some alternatives, where POSTING an item is FREE
Try http://www.eptop.com or http://www.bidville.com or http://www.craigslist.com
Good luck

Yes.
You can also lose money if you post things for sale (which costs money) and they don't sell.
Some people in the US have quit their day jobs and 'do' eBay full time. Nowadays you can make a living with eBay..
Buy low, sell high.. Aaaaaaaah capitalism!

Yes. It depends on what you're selling though. I tried to sell some paintings but it didn't work out. I have a friend who has a very successful ebay buisness selling shoes and clothes.....

Yes, if you have the money to post itams, and have products which people will bid for at a profit.
It's hard to do, and most sites or spam e-maisl arn't the way to do it. So don't trust the "Make Money on E-Bay" e-mails, if you want to sell, have the cost to post ready and sell itams which will bring in a profit on your own.

You can, but don't send money to those people spamming your email about it. Those are rip offs.
Many people go to auctions and scout store clearances for deals then resell them (why else would someone buy 5000 rolls of tinfoil). You will need to know what you are doing and start out slow til you get the hang of it.
I can't do it i hate to ship things, but if you do enough business you can phone it in and they will pick up.
Craigslist is free but ONLY SELL LOCAL.

I lost money on e-bay. I didn't even get a bid for my portable CD player. I was only asking $5.00. I ended up selling it at a garage sale for $10.00. Not everyone is successful on e-bay.....)(
