It's an odd comparison but don't you feel your query would be better served by seaching on the respective countries factfiles?

Apart from the Chinese of Malaysian citizenships just about everything else is different. They form some 28.8% of the 25 million population in Malaysia. And being of Chinese ancestry the Malaysian Chinese share a common language and culture like those in China.

However a significant percentage of Malaysian Chinese - those who attended English/National type schools never learned mandarin - the official language of China; only speaking their respective Chinese dialects.
