In todays standards Alexander was bi-sexual but not according to that era's standards.

The ancient Greeks were practicing the Dodekatheon. The Dodekatheon had a vast number of rituals and some of them were more related to paganinsm or lead to paganism. According to their religion bi-sexuality for men was normal.

To be more precise the ancient Greeks did not have words like today to define homosexuality or heterosexuality. They did not have any word for the sexual orientation of a person. For them bi-sexuality was normal and thus no word to characterize something normal.

One more interesting thing is the sexual lifes of soldiers and their training. In ancient Greece the soldiers were urged to have sex with each other. In many cases sex was part of their military training. For ancient Greeks this was a great way to create bonds among the fellow soldiers and fight not only for their country (city-state) but also for their family and their fellow warriors. There are similar practices in the modern armies but do not use sex for it.

Moreover sex was taugh in schools (gymnasia) of ancient Greece and male students had sex with each other. It was essential part of their education and entrance to manhood.

In ancient Greece according the today's standrads had also prostitutes but according to the ancient Greeks those prostitutes were something like priesteses that were serving the Gods.

To sum up. He had sex with male and female companions but that was normal for that period. I would not characterize him bi-sexual because this is a modern world term and simply the ancient civilizations ignored it.

It's believed so--it was one of the causes of friction between he and his father, Phillip of Macedonia. Phillip was a man's man, always out battling, and Alexander was a well-educated young man who was always with his one boyhood friend. They stayed together until the friend died. Alexander was so upset he did not leave his quarters for days, when he had never been that way before. He also died not long afterward, and some say that although he had suffered a wound, it was really that he lost the will to live without his partner.

Besides, in the Greek world, having a male lover would not have been unusual at all, despite Phillip's feelings. Even the Romans didn't consider it unusual. When Emporer Hadrian's young male lover fell into the Nile and drowned on a trip to Egypt, Hadrian put his statue everywhere, and even used him as a model for statues of Roman gods.

Yes, im sure he was bisexual. This was not uncommon for men or women at the time, they did not have this problem like we do today about gays and lesbians. Many people back then were very sexual, look at most of there statues, alot of them are in the nude. Then there was no problem with haveing sexual relations between men or between women. The primary source for saying that being homosexual is wrong comes from the Bible, but the greeks new nothing of God at the time because they believe in many gods, this was just a normal way of life for them, these practices were also continued through Roman times.
