I'm just wondering your theories, when a nuclear bomb goes off it sends out an EMP shockwave. While testing in the White Sands missile range, the first atom bomb actually sent out EMP shockwaves that knocked out street lights in Hawaii.

Also keep in mind that it permanantly knocks out electronic devices that it affects.

It would depend on the range of the EMP wave. A large enough blast would knock out all unprotected electronics, which includes television, radio and the like. Unprotected aircraft capable of gliding might be able to safely land, others would crash. All in all, it would not be pretty. Luckily, rebuilding would not that impossible. Within 6 months to year, most of the damage would be repaired.

I think your concept of EMP is a little off. Look up EMP weapons and I don't think you'll find they are nukes. They were rumored to be deployed in the first wave in Baghdad. Didn't happen.

Simply put, from my reading, EMP is a blast happening behind an energized coil.

The US is the most heavily bombed (nuclear) country in the world. Some 800+ tests have happend, many above ground. I think an EMP pulse from these would've knocked Las Vegas out of electronic action if your Hawaii story is to be believed

I knew that it took out electronic devices, I didn't know the shock waves had enough force to knock stuff over, that's interesting. I think if that happens then the world will be in utter chaos. I don't think many people today can function with electronics for very long. Being cut off from information may be enough to make some panic (especially if there was war going on)
