The class I'm thinking about is WI(writing-intensive), so it will fill a requirement. It also fits nicely into my schedule.
Has anyone taken one? What was it like? Are they useful in any other discipline except Black studies?

Afro-American studies course vary widely from school to school, but the basics of each should be a review of the Afro-American experience in our country. Demonstrating the contributions of Afro- Americans in all facets of American life.

In most American history courses the only mention of minorities are the Native Americans as savages and Afro-Americans as slaves. We've are a far greater part of American history than just slaves.

From cowboys to explores, we have been a part of the American experience ( experiment ).

The course should enlighten and surprise you, make you proud and sad, but most of all it will make knowledgeable of our peoples endeavors.

I hope you take the course.

You will take plenty of useless classes. Take this one that fits in your schedule and covers your WI. Generally at least very interesting history.
