Um, I'm not sure about any ghettos LOL Most of Canada is actually pretty rural, although I'm sure there are some in Toronto or the bigger cities. I'm from the Maritimes too and I absolutely love it here. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else in the world. The ppl are so friendly and humourous... of course you have jerks like every place else, but there just seems to be a more easy going attitude here. The scenery is to die for! Who needs Hawaii when you can just drive around the Cabot Trail one afternoon LOL I'd say the best thing I love about here is the fact that we have such a strong sense of community and a surviving culture. We support eachother and a lot of towns have ceilidhs or kitchen parties every week, and dances etc. so you get to know your neighbours and have lots of good times=)

The ghettos in Canada are pretty much the same as in the US. What sets Canada apart is the not only the vast tracks of wilderness, but the people. Most Canadians are extremely polite, helpful and courteous. I think it has to do with our "national attitude". Whereas most Americans seem to follow the idea of "looking out for number 1", most Canadians follow "we're all in this together" mentality. Makes the country a safer place to live, and more enjoyable as well. An added benefit is that our leader isn't crazy (at least not too much) and doesn't want to declare war on every living thing.

I share your fascination of Canada, but unfortunately I have been bred United Statesian. I love its beauty and its "abouts."
I like the conclusion someone said of looking out for self in US and thinking corporately as Canadians. I think in America we have learned to play our own game of innocent until proven guilty and playing all the loop holes that a person could have been caught on video holding a bank up with a deadly weapon, but if the police officer forgot to dot the i and cross the T on page 257c or the crimminal investigation the person gets off and becomes a victum of the system or a teacher takes advantage of a young student and has to be declared insane because the doctor prescribed too much Viagra and walks away free or only probation for lewd and lesivious acts on a minor... no wonder we have so many problems in our ghettoes.... criminals can find all the loop holes. In some countries castration happens or your hand is cut off if you steal (not suggesting we go that far thoguh).

I don't know what the ghettos are like, but I had to respond because my husband is from New Brunswick also. I know EXACTLY what you mean about the accent, it's so hot! Just out of curiousity, where is your friend from? My husband is from Moncton. I think what makes Canada so great is that family is very important and their children are raised to be respectful and do not run the house, their parents do. We want to buy a second home there someday, either in Moncton or Shediac. Contact me and let me know where your friend is from...maybe they know each other???

The ghettos are still pretty bad, though really not as bad as you'd think (at least nothing compared to the ghettos in, say, New York). I used to live in Scarborough (considered the ghetto of Toronto) but really even that wasn't so bad. The worst I ever got was some random woman shouting at me from her balcony.
There are rare shootings, but people make a big deal of them in the media because they don't happen as often as they do elsewhere.

Victoria and Vancouver are very scenic and very costly, as is Calgary. Toronto is somewhat vast and very costly, and not very scenic. Ottawa is medium sized (a million people) in spite of the incontrovertible fact that it fairly is turning out to be costly. Ottawa is somewhat scenic and very livable. Kingston is somewhat decrease priced (a pair of million/2 of Toronto's housing expenditures, and a couple of million/4 to a million/3 of Vancouver's) and very scenic as a results of one thousand Islands, Lake Ontario, and the Rideau Canal. Kingston is domicile to Queen's college, in spite of the incontrovertible fact that it is not a school city in the yank experience. Moncton is somewhat scenic and very decrease priced. time-honored domicile cost for a bungalow is around $a hundred and fifty,000. Moncton is on the threshold of the sea. there is a lot of scenic, decrease priced, places to stay in Southern Ontario, different than Kingston. Brockville, Port desire, Cobourg, Smiths Falls, Peterborough, Owen Sound, and so on.
