No, the highest he ever ranked was #2, back in 1996.....

No, highest rank was #2 from September of 1996 thru January of 1997 and went back to #2 from April of 1997 thru November of 1997. He won 34 career titles and was a runner up on 24 more occasions. In 1996, he was a runner up at the Australian Open (lost to Boris Becker) and at the US Open (lost to Pete Sampras). He won his only grand slam in 1989 when he beat Stefan Edberg in 5 sets at the French Open

No he never was.....made it up really high but don"t remember him being #2 .....do remember that when he came out there was really a lot of "buzz" from the media.....McEnroe in his typical self laughed it up and rightfully so for Chang never even did that great in the "Juniors".....so what made them think he would do well stated McEnroe....he even bet that he never would win a "Major" boldly betting that he would drop his shorts in "center" court if he won one.......do not remember him doing it after Chang won the French Open........Chang ought to call him on the bet!!
