It doesn't happen when i don't use sponge. what could be responsible for this?

I have never heard of anyone being allergic to a sponge but maybe you are.. I still say that you are NOT allergic to a sponge so try showering with a rag... You know.. it could be the soap. There are certain soapes that I cannot use and this depends on the person.. same as with shampoos.. some of the cheaper shampoos I cannot use because they cause itching on the body.

yes, you need to get a new sponge,bacteria on it builds up after time and causes the itching.

get rid of the sponge it holds bacteria and cold water dosent kill bacteria

Use hot water then.
You will get cleaner.
