Posting flyers may be cheap but it yields a minimal return. So it's a lot of effort for not a lot of effect.

You could try going into local businesses - nail salons, hair salons (places where women go, since they are mostly the ones hiring cleaners) and ask if you can put some of your business cards and flyers there.

At Office Depot (or similar) you can get acrylic business card holders and flyer holders for very little money. They look sharp and professional and will more likely get people's attention.

Also, talk to people. Tell everyone you know what you're doing. Always have business cards on hand so if you're talking to someone, you can hand them one.

You can also advertise on Craigs List or Back Pages - if you have those for your city.

Good luck!! And make sure to charge enough - at least $20 per hour.

Target your market area first. By this I mean, determine the homes in your area that would most likely be interested in your services. Find out what the zip code is for those areas and do a 'insert drop' to those areas.
How do you do this you ask? Good question. Many local communities have a weekly or monthly paper that comes out and is usually one that has high readership as it deals with the issues of their community, not a huge blanket area of an entire metro.

After determining what paper to carry your insert, you will need to create your own. Make it the size of a full sheet of paper (lightly colored paper, say pink) and give the important things that a potential customer (generally a female will be calling so make it appeal to her) will want to know such as phone number, business name, if you can give out names of pleased customers for a referral, what type of services you offer, hours of business, and anything that sets you apart from your competition. Check out the competitions ads to see what you should put into yours.

After creating your ad and proofing it, put out several thousand as you will only get about a 1/2 of a percent response at best, so don't be afraid to put out lots. Generally the paper will charge a certain amount per every thousand you want delivered. But make sure your paper can deliver them to the specific zip codes you want to advertise in. Why waste precious start up dollars by sending them to the wrong zip codes?

Other tactics could be posting the same insert on a bulletin board at malls, grocery stores and such. If it is a business you are targeting, then meet them in person. Chances are they already have an existing company. Offer to do it free for a month and if they like your services, they can sign a one year contract. Be creative, confident and never ever give up hope! Starting a new business takes lots of work!

Good Luck!

Hi betchy, surprise! I know your business is at your home so the simplest and easiest way is to display your merchandise right in front of your house. Or if you have plenty of time (since you also have a car) might as well be a "travelling saleswoman" instead. Good luck!

Get a mop and a bucket and stand on the street corner with a sign that says, "Will Clean for Money". That would be sooooooo cute people would flock to your business.

Get some brochure paper and make brochures on your computer using publisher or something and canvas the neighborhood.

If you can't afford the glossy paper, just make flyers.

You can punch a hole in the corner and put a rubber band or string through the hole and so you can hang them on door knobs.

Advertising and the cheapest advertising is flyers. If you don't want to do flyers do what the Mexicans do in Dallas, they ring doorbells with a business card.

craigslist.org is free and it will definitely drive traffic from your community.

but the absolute best way to market your service, the way your business will grow the fastest and is free....(drum roll please)...

great outstanding reliable service to your present customers and new customers.

people love to refer you when they have excellent service. this is mostly true because most service professionals (any profession) are just ok to bad. when someone shines it is rare.
