You can self publish.

But you might try actually trying to go through a publishing house that will pay you first.

The best way to do that is to get an agent. An agent is hard to find, but they will be your advocate. A good agent lives in Manhattan and knows editors and people in the book industry. An agent will help you improve your book before an editor sees it and an agent doesn't get paid unless you do, so they want to see you succeed so they can pay their mortgage. :O)

When looking for an agent try www.preditorsandeditors.com or the writers market book. Both will have listings of agents and what type of books they represent. It is important to query an agent that represents the type of book you have written. You don't want to write a fantasy book and send it to an agent who only represents biographies.

The other option is to send your manuscript to the editors directly. However if an editor has not asked for the manuscript it goes into the slush pile and an unpaid intern reads the slush pile trying to find something worth publishing. VERY few books get published out of the slush pile. One editor I know from a major publishing house (publishing 200-400 books a year) said that in the 10 years he had been at that house he had only published 2 books out of the slush pile.

Hope this info helps! The publishing industry is brutal. Prepare yourself for LOTS of rejections.
