Can having a one world government solve the problems of the earth today? Social, political and economic advantages and disadvantages? Will this even work or better yet come about in the near future? Will we have peace, or will it usher the next world war?

Yes to one world government if it is truely democractic and recognizes differences among people and does not impose one kind of culture on all. Some just rules by which the world can run are a necessity to prevent rogue countries like US from destroying others or for us to take and calculated action against lunatics like Osama.
It will need a will to share and not just suppress. A caring attitude for all and liberation from a mindset which sees others as inferior.
The world government will have to be minimal and non interfering... only to ensure fairplay and justice among various people of the world. It must foster greater contact and sharing and suppress ideas of hate. I dont think anybody will have a problem with this but those who have an undue clout in the world. The present veto system in the UN is essentially unjust. The world government has to be by all and for all. It is a must if we want to save this planet from any more harm.
You will have to work with people towards it. It cant be thrust upon people the way US is pretending to thrust democracy upon middle east.

The Muslims would never go for it unless it was a government run by them. So no, it is a precursor for more problems. And how many Americans do you think would go for it if it meant we had to give up some of our rights? I know I sure as hell wouldn't... I'd probably be fighting alongside Muslims, a thought which scares the crap out of me!
