Absolutely. It always looks grotty, but it does serve as a handy visual shorthand for "this person is a witless sheep who hates their body".

I have 2 tattoos and I am not in the armed forces or a tramp!

no it is not common. I'm neither in the armed forces nor a tramp but i've never even considered getting a tattoo. have you?
Some realy weak willed people who are not happy with their body and so want to permently mark the body get tattoos. in order to make themselves feel better.
but remeber lots of people who have a tattoo regret getting them and so attempt to have them removed which can leave the skin scared and looking a mess.

so if you are considering a tattoo, then go for a non permenant option in the short term see if you can live with it for the rest of your natural life. if you can then consider going for the real thing. but if not no harm done as the non permenant can be easily removed.
also remeber i heard in the news a year or two ago about some kid having a so called non permenant tatto whiler on holiday, she ended up with some sort of skin problems.

just my opinion

This question doesn't make sense. Do you mean to say that it is UNCOMMON to get a tattoo unless you are in the armed forces or a tramp?

Well if you mean is it "common" in the sense that it is what we peasant folk do then no but if you mean is it usual for people to do then yes especially these days. Unless you are in the armed forces or a tramp? it is also usual in those circumstances. You may wish to clarify your question.

It is very common to get a tattoo. Lots of people do. I have to disagree that the armed forces are an exception. I would think that it is very common there too.

This is a difficult question to answer. There are certain cultures in society where tattoos are fully acceptable, and in others they are not. We are all different and have the freedom of choice.

If you are happy with the idea of a Tattoo, then go ahead and have one done. If on the other hand you feel uncomfortable or uneasy with the idea, then avoid it at all costs !!

Only crap, DIY tattoos done with a pin and some ink are "common".
Most tattoos have a personal meaning to the person who has it. It's just another form of expression and could hardly be seen as "common".

I have a ta too on my back so I forget it is there and some times people look at me a little different at a pool and then I figure out why. I know several women that have them on their feet or lower leg and really wish that they didn't. I love that S.N.L. skit with the old moms with those bulls eye tattoos on their back. But all in all I think people from all classes get them.
