Do I need to reinstall the system software? My grandkids jammed a cd into the drive. I got it out and now I can't get any other cd into the drive to do installations if that''s what I need. Do I need to take the cover off and check out the cd drive to see what's jamming that? There seems to be two metal bars stopping the cd from going in. Any help will be appreciated.

It's running OS 9, and I found that the kids had two cd's jammed into the drive. Got them both out, and now trying to restore. We'll see how that goes.

The flashing question mark at startup is the computer telling you that it doesn't see a drive from which to boot. If you're running OS X simply hold down the Option key on the keyboard while restarting and you should see a screen giving you options as to what to boot from (be patient, it may take a few seconds of holding the key down to get to the screen).

If the entrance to the CD drive has been damaged you'll need to take the iMac in to an Apple service depot.
