i was driving to work and it fell to zero. Any idea what the problem might be. Wiring maybe? and how might i fix it?

Could be a fuse. What kind of car? Older ones used a cable drive to the speedometer. But I believe the newer ones are all electric. In any event, this is a mechanic fix on a newer vehicle.

Newer vehicles use a vehicle speed sensor located on or in the transmission, sensor failure could be a cause. Older autos used a cable connection from the transmission to the dash, cable could have broken.

depend on what type / year model car you have...if you have an older type with cable driven speedo then mostly like cable is broken. Best suggestion is to buy a cheap repair manual from your local auto parts store (haynes or chilton manual). I usually follow speedo cable out for firewall and disconnect it at transmission then connect a drill to internal part and spin it. Or you can pull the internal out and ck it if it is broken or not.

there is a cable the runs to you transmission. this cable is for you speedometer most likely that is all you have to fix. it mite have just come off but if not you will have ot get one they don't cast that much. got to auto zone.

you will have to go to a shop ...it's cable that works the speedometer...or possibly a sensor from the transmission. It happened to mine too
