Do you think its fair that humans have rights? Yes? So what's so different between humans and animals? We all came from the same place. We all suffer, we all need love and social interaction. But for some reason this notion deeply offends people. The socialization to use animals as if they were objects is too strong. Sometimes I wonder if the people to completely reject the thought of animal rights would also completely reject the thought that women were thinking beings.

Absolutely. They are living, breathing things, they have feelings and the ability to feel pain. They are generally unable to take care of themselves. They are really no different from small children, except they never grow out of their need to be taken care of.

We get dogs and cats as pets - we make the choice to bring them into our homes. Once we've done that, we owe it to them to treat them with kindness, to make sure they are fed and watered and loved.

Because we are a culture which keeps dogs and cats as pets, we have an industry devoted to the creation of more dogs and cats. Giving those animals rights helps govern that industry. Unfortunately it doesn't govern it closely enough and there are a lot of bad breeders out there.

If we did not consider the animals to have any rights - and treated them no differently than we would a book or a piece of furniture - what would that say about us as a people? Look into the eyes of a little puppy, and ask yourself if that little baby dog has the same right to be safe and cared for as any twelve year old kid.

Personally, I prefer dogs to most teenagers. I've never seen a golden retriever in sagger pants with a backward baseball cap riding his skate board down my street listening to loud, horrid music, swearing like a sailor and spitting on my sidewalk.

Yes. They have consciousness, awareness, they feel pain, they deserve to not be abused. If you are talking about food animals, they need to be handled as mercifully as possible, no pain and no fear for them. Thats a good reason to be a vegetarian. If you are talking pets, they are friendly creatures who love and trust us and like any friend they deserve good care. Other animals in nature deserve respect, too, they do not deserve to be slaughtered or hurt. If an animal absolutely must be eliminated, it should be done as mercifully as possible.

You bet I do. They are God's creations too...they are innocent like children. The difference is children can grow up to speak for themselves...the animals can't speak for themselves. It's high time we started treating ALL life as if it's important...we ALL have a reason to be here...even the animals.
